He wont even get 9.5 on the open market, and Buffalo can offer an extra year.

Same sources as last year i asume.

It's been previously reported that his initial asking price was 9.5M. Why sell yourself short, right?

In reality, he won't hit 9 million because Jason Botterill is not Peter Chiarelli or Mike Milbury. The end.

5 years 35-40 million should be the starting offer imo

8.5 million tops, if he wants more, walk away and offer sheet AM34, with Pommer and Moulson coming off the books, they would have room to do so. Would love to see how Kyle D would handle that.

They keep talking about offer sheets, I just don't see it happening. Barely ever happens, seems like some kind of code of conduct that GMs have.

Jeff Skinner's goal totals per year:

18
28
37
24
And currently on pace for 56...

Call me crazy, but I don't think signing a 27 year old with such wildly inconsistent numbers to a long term deal is a good idea. He's a very good player, but he's never had more than 63 points in a season.

He also has never had the opportunity to play with a quality center. It could also be that he was misused in Carolina or simply that they didn't have the pieces to work with him, didn't you guys have him on the 3rd line for a lot of last season?

And looking at his goal totals, he scores between 25-35 per 82g. The only real outlier is the 2014-15 season where Carolina was 8th in the Metro and no one was scoring on the Canes.

He's also played on a very inconsistent team for that time. I'd say he's a 30-40 goal, 70 point player and would probably be paid like one. 7.5 - 8.5 per year is probably what he's worth. Whether he keeps it up over the life of the contract is a different discussion, but he's earned that right to demand that money with the career he's had so far.

Yeah, he played kind of all over the place for most of his time here.

They tried him with Eric Staal but the two never really clicked. He had a couple concussions early on that set him back as well, but yeah, he rarely had an opportunity to play with a top end center.

Don't get me wrong, he's a good player. He'll net you 25-30 goals, but he's not a 50 goal scorer.

Definitely need a 35 year old goalie with 34 games played.
